Why do people always say there is or isnt life any where else in the universe?

Why dont people just say we dont know,.

why do people always give yes or no answers to the question is there life anywhere else.

We dont know so how can we say yes,no or try to twist the words to give a probably yes or no answer; unless someone has been to every object in the universe how can we say there is life or there isnt life. Why do people always say there is or isnt life any where else in the universe?
I think people like to be concrete on issues, in this case, life in the universe. However, if you dive into the realm of certainly and uncertainty, you'll tend to swing towards religion when pondering other intelligent life.

I do like your stance, "We don't know", because it leaves you neutrel, almost like being agnostic; leaving it open to interpretation.
you are right we don't know and people are only expressing their opinions. Why do people always say there is or isnt life any where else in the universe?
It doesn't matter, really. If there are other lifeforms in the universe other than on Earth, we'll never reach them anyhow. Even if mankind could be able to create a form of transportation close to the speed of light, the distances would be too great, for us and any other possible intelligent life. So far astronomers haven't spotted any distant planets capable of supporting life (and even getting to those lifeless planets would take hundreds or even thousands of years). Whether there is or isn't life doesn't affect humans at all.
wow great question and great explanation after it...i agree wholeheartedly...

The simple reason is fear and teaching....

People have been taught certain things about science and religion that they have to except as reality...Anything outside of this is just utterly scary for them...they cant fathom how insignificant we are compared to the universe...

My favorite is the people that think it doesnt exist cause we humans havent found it yet...i dont even want to think of how small the fraction is that represents the amount of "space" we have accurately explored....

Its a mighty bold statement to say theres no life anywhere else when we have only landed on a few celestial bodies in our small solar system. . . . . . Arrogance

Also we dont know how long space travel would be, who says it has to be in a direction and not through a dimension...

keep listening to scientists til your funeral...ill have my open mind looking up...Why do people always say there is or isnt life any where else in the universe?
Let us use the word "ignorance". This is not meant as a negative criticism, but refers to social and cultural conditioning!
It's simple you wouldn't find a planet except Earth which has Oxygen and etc gasses and it wouldn't be as near as the Earth is To a Star.
I think it's because people are impatient and want all the answers now. Realistically the answers to questions like this might not be established for 100s of years, if not longer. A period of time which vastly exceeds a human lifetime!

For this reason, humans (in particular scientists) are impatient to know the truth.
i believe you mean "for the same reason people think there is a god." saying that there isnt a god is just claiming absence of proof, just like there is absence of proof to the boogie man
Mankind has not investigated about life in other places in universe. We dint have the necessary technology for it. We don't have technology to investigate life forms similar to earth There may be many kinds of life forms which are beyond our imagination so it is not p[possible to look for them unless we have some idea how they are?
