What is the real definition of evolution ?

there was a news report that said people's brains are functioning a little different because they use the internet a lot. no proof of a change in the brain. that makes sense but they called it evolution like it was obviously that and that is wrong.

it is almost like society is trying to twist the definition of the word to fit anything then they go on to introduce heresy and then say but that's what evolution means didn't you know ?

What is the real definition of evolution ?
micro evolution is the variation of species within its own kind

macro evolution is the changing of one species to another

(never been witnessed)

You have never seen a reptile lay an egg and a bird hatch, have you?

even if it did, who would that bird mate with?

I hate the word micro evolution because it is true. They use that word to make the rest of the dumb theory look even REMOTELY logical.
In the biological sense, evolution is the adaptation of a species to its environment, taking place over multiple generations through mutations in the genetic code.

I actually agree that any changes in brain function due to using the internet (and that in itself sounds like junk science) isn't true evolution. Any changes that occur after the body is fully formed in the womb are NOT evolutionary changes, as they aren't incorporated into the genetic code. Evolution is the result of positive mutations that occur at the moment of conception, which allow an organism to thrive within its environment, and therefore increase its chances of survival and producing offspring. What is the real definition of evolution ?
Evolution is any process of gradual change. It often refers to biological evolution, the change in heritable traits over time. Different tasks cause the brain to be utilized differently. While this evolution, the gradual changes in the brain over time, is different, it has a name: experience.
maybe you should evolve.

evolution has multiple meanings.

S: (n) development, evolution (a process in which something passes by degrees to a different stage (especially a more advanced or mature stage)) "the development of his ideas took many years"; "the evolution of Greek civilization"; "the slow development of her skill as a writer"

S: (n) evolution, organic evolution, phylogeny, phylogenesis ((biology) the sequence of events involved in the evolutionary development of a species or taxonomic group of organisms)What is the real definition of evolution ?
A change of something over a series of time. There are many forms of evolution.

Micorevolution

Macroevolution

Cosmic evolution

and much more. Evolution in it's raw form doesn't refer simply to biological evolution, it is just a change over a series of time. Like for instance if you do weight lifting, your body may evolve into having bigger, stronger muscles.
Def: Development, a process in which something passes by degrees to a different stage.

You can't twist the definition of evolution. The fact is that biology adapts to change, our brains are biological organisms. Not sure where and why you've made the connection with heresy?

The audience for most mass media consumption are not highly educated. So words are never exact and must be used to a dumbed down audience.

Just as you would say 'this suit is black' in the department store. But in a science lab, you might say 'this suit absorbs most visible light frequencies but reflects much of wavelengths above 6000nm and so is not black per se.'
Evolution is survival of the fittest due to freak mutations that are actually advantageous for that organism at the time.

For example: The peppered moth.
Yeah that's definitely stretching it. I'm sure peoples minds change in regards to whatever activity they're doing. I'm sure it's not evolution.
The media has never been accused of being "precise" in their usage of terminology. Then too, the current scientific meaning of evolution is fairly recent and previously evolution just meant change over time.
Quite simply, evolution is change over time.

More specifically, it is the change in allele frequencies from one generation to the next.
Part of evolving is adapting. I think the thought processes these days are much different than they were 200 years ago. Doesn't mean our brains are evolving per se, but I would see it as adaptation, which can lead to evolution.
Something changing over time

@ Servant: "macroevolution is the changing of one species to another (never been witnessed)"

Fossil record is plenty of proof of macroevolution
Biology. change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by such processes as mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift.
"a process of continuous change from a lower, simpler, or worse to a higher, more complex, or better state"
You are on the internet, look it up on any of the dictionaries available
One thing for sure about it- its evolving.

There is no telling what the definition will be in 50 years.
Biological change over time based on random acts of genetic behaviors =/
Intellects think we came from monkeys but they forget that hell is hot
