Why did DR. Zakir Naik twist the meaning of words in the Quran in his debate?

For example,



1)‘Noor’ means light in Arabic. Why does Dr Zakir Naik say Noor means borrowed light In his televised debate against Dr.William campbell ?Munir also does not mean borrowed light either. It means 'luminous'. (2: 257)



2) Dr Zakir naik claims that’s the word 'Yasbahoon' in Quran (21:33) means rotating around its own axis.In Arabic Yasbahoon means swimming. The word here implies that the Sun and the Moon float in the sky around the Earth and not around their own axis.



3)In his debate with Dr. William Campbell Dr. Naik claims that the verse 51:47 talks about the expanding universe. Actually it says



“With power and skill did We construct the Firmament: for it is We Who create the vastness of pace”



The word ‘vastness’ does not mean expanding..



So what are your views on this?Why did DR. Zakir Naik twist the meaning of words in the Quran in his debate?
he wouldnt be the first religious person to twist words



thats why he wont debate ali sina



ali sina has made numerous attempts and even muslims want hi to debate ali sina but he always refuses



cause ali sina points out the exact same things you did



he is just another religious con man
Dr. Zakir is a good debater. He is a good showman but he twists the meaning on some Arabic words in order for them to sound more scientific and modern. It is not a good thingto do. He refuses to debate with Ali Sina in writing or in public.

I haven't noticed these... I cannot comment before looking into it. I'll check them out, thanks.
My views on this is that it is likely that Dr. Zakir Naik knows Arabic better than you do, and hence his claims are accurate.



21:33 And He it is Who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all (orbs) travel along swiftly in their celestial spheres.



51:47 We have built the heaven with might, and We it is Who make the vast extent (thereof).





.Why did DR. Zakir Naik twist the meaning of words in the Quran in his debate?
Conjecture, belief and perception. People see what they need to see, believe what they need to believe.



Ultimately what other reason do you need, save for the possibility that a few changed words could seriously aid his arguement?

um ... uve taken the meanings from an english translation as far as i can see. arabic is a language with vast vocabulary and is very difficult to translate, therefore while doing that .. they usually try to take the closest meaning ... u can do two things .. u either contact an arabic person Or u look up several translations.



I checked out two translations .. they both said "orbit" .. now i have to find an arabic to confirm :p will do that soon !
2) In my version of the translation of the Quran, (12:33) says:



[It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course.]



Which in transliteration is [Wahuwa allathee khalaqa allayla waalnnaharawaalshshamsa waalqamara kullun fee falakin yasbahoona] Al - Quran 21:33



When you include 'rounded course' after swimming, then it makes sense, that this verse is actually talking about how the planets orbit around the sun.



3) To me, vastness of pace means the vastness of speed, which indicates that their is movement and that the universe does not stay still in vastness.
Here are 3 of the most commonly used translations:



002.257

YUSUFALI: Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (For ever).



PICKTHAL: Allah is the Protecting Guardian of those who believe. He bringeth them out of darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their patrons are false deities. They bring them out of light into darkness. Such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein.



SHAKIR: Allah is the guardian of those who believe. He brings them out of the darkness into the light; and (as to) those who disbelieve, their guardians are Shaitans who take them out of the light into the darkness; they are the inmates of the fire, in it they shall abide.



What does this verse have to do with the moon?

Where does this verse say they orbit around the Earth?

SHAKIR: And the heaven, We raised it high with power, and most surely We are the makers of things ample.



Here you're taking one of the translations, out of which you're taking one word that everyone knows does not mean expanding. But "creating the vastness" can only mean making it vast. How do you do that? (hint: expansion)

In any case, its one translation, check the others ones for a more thorough understanding.
