What's a word for twisted and confusing?

Any suggestions? and if not, should I use distorted, contorted or convoluted?



The gist of the sentence is explaining the history of something, and saying it is twisted and confusing.What's a word for twisted and confusing?
Tortuous readily comes to mind.

A really neat word would be "labyrinthian," named after trying to navigate the labyrinth.
