Many objects can be used as symbols.
For example if you wanted to go along with the theme of irony, a fake necklace would be good. The necklace is flashy but false, and you can also talk about looks vs. reality.750 word story on a character with an odd habit?
Why not a blade, that ends up to be completely fake? Alot of possibilities...
