In Exodus 20:13 it says, " You shall not murder." People understand that and know you shouldn't kill someone. Which also, by the way, hating someone is the same thing as murdering them....that's another story.
Then in Leviticus 18:22 it says, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. People say well, God didn't mean it to say don't be gay.
How can we take his words of the first mentioned plainly and then try to twist the latter to appease people's sinfulness?

In our society today, man wants to please man - NOT God and so, mankind is more and more accepting and tolerant of sin over God's law. People want the twist the meaning of the bible so that sin and wickedness is excused such as homosexuality, lying, stealing, murder, etc. Man can't accept what God says and what God is against, so because man accepts and tolerates false religions, wickedness/sin, etc., so that is why they twist and distort the meaning of the bible: to suit their own meaning, to make it appear as though God doesn't 'hate' anyone and that God accepts sin, which He does NOT.
It CLEARLY states in the bible that God hates sin and those who take pleasure in it and choose following the world over Him and His law. It also states the consequences to those who defy His law and choose to follow the world.

There is no evidence that's actually the case; it's far more likely that these are just bronze-age restrictions against sex that doesn't increase the tribe size.
2. Christians love saying the old testament doesn't apply when shown, for example, laws against eating shellfish.
3. If your god really does exist, it's his own fault for not inspiring a clearer book. I mean, slavery was in accordance with the bible until it fell out of favor; now suddenly it's against the bible.
4. If he didn't want the bible to be translated, he should have found a way to sabotage that construction project without creating thousands of languages the bible would need imperfect translating to.|||First, It was written by men.
Second, If we as human beings need a book to tell us not to murder each other, we are in serious trouble
Third, the main problem with the bible is it's ambiguity. There are so many translations and interpretations.
Fourth, the bible also says love one another, treat your neighbor as you would like to be treated, be a good samaritan, judge not and a lot of other things that are not practiced very often.
Don't use a book to find your morals, look inside yourself. What do YOU think is right.|||Everything in the history of mankind has included a "truth" from the past with a twist to match the present.
The OT was the book Jesus followed, but it didn't work for his followers, so they created the NT. When they wrote this book, they took the parts of the OT and superimposed in onto their current beliefs.
Beliefs are beliefs as long as you believe in them. There is no theory/philosophy/religion that has stood the test of time without being changed in some way by the current generation.

Besides that you're talking about the OLD testament....when the NEW testament came out it made the old one null and void.
Are you afraid of people who are gay? Do you think that they shouldn't be? That they shouldn't be allowed the same rights and freedoms that all of humanity is entitled to? I do agree with you, I really do. But to some people, it depends on the interpretation. From what I have heard, there were words that meant "homosexual" directly translated, and the Bible translators seemed to CHOOSE a much broader term to encompass all immoral deeds. (not excluding nor including homosexuality specifically)
