A report monkey had this violated earlier. Its a legitimate Q even if you don't like the wording. Why do some Christians get their panties in a twist when someone mentions the Council of Nicea?
They dislike the fact that the contents of the bible were determined by people and not their god.
Just one of several councils to clarify understanding of deep mystery of Christ being fully human and fully Divine and what one must do to be saved...I've NEVER met one single Christian that got upset over Council of Nicea in over 40 years experience living in N America, Europe and Asia...u been in a cave or on the moon? Why do some Christians get their panties in a twist when someone mentions the Council of Nicea?
Because people think the the bible was canonized in this council which is false. It's annoying as hell.
I don't know but the guy above who says "our thoughts are with you in this time of distress" is killing me. I can't figure out his name but that was funny as all get out . . . 7 thumbs up from me.
Hannah J PaulWhy do some Christians get their panties in a twist when someone mentions the Council of Nicea?
because there are alot of misconceptions that go along with it. people on both sides of the issue tend to ignore the facts. one of the biggest lies that I've heard concerning the council is that Constantine threw the books up on the air and which ever landed on the table became the bible and which ever landed on the floor did not....so, as long as people have the facts and really know what they are talking about then I have no problem with the council...however, when people try to twist it around to they're point..then you have alot of people who don't know about it, and won't take the time to research it themselves to get the facts. by the way....there was actually more than one council of nicea..and at each they discussed which books were canonical and which were not. it was a long drawn out process, not just the work of one meeting.
They like to ignore it because it proves that the Bible was actually compiled by humans with an agenda.
I neither have panties nor twist them.
The Council of Nicea throws serious doubts on the validity of the whole Jesus story.
Plus, the Council of Nicea was the beginning of the Roman Catholic Church, and the ignorant fundies hate them.
It was not just the council of nicea there where several councils. and it was during these councils that they decided on the creed of christianity. with most of the eastern bishops supporting arius and jesus being not of God and the western christians supporting the trinitarian view.
Once the matter was finally resolved they threw out dozens of gospels, such as the gospel of barnabus, gospel of madeline etc . Any gospel that contradicted the newly established creed.
A monkey violated you?
You must feel terrible- I'm sure you can get therapy to overcome it and move on with your life. Our thoughts are with you in this time of distress.
But seriously folks.
We all know that they don't like being reminded that their book was organized by the roman empire and not by God. Because that would mean it was a person just like themselves that they were relying on and it would all start to seem kind of ridiculous.
Why are we all in such a hurry to give up responsibility for ourselves?
i have no idea, seems to me they took consensus, but regardless, very conservative christians get their panties in a twist over ANYTHING.
The Council of Nicea was an important step in the clarification of certain Christian truths. Unfortunately most of those who mention it have no idea what it was about. Some think the Bible was compiled there. It wasn't. Or that it was changed there. It wasn't. Some think Constantine had an active role in it. He didn't.
You know the answer to that ;)
If they are Christian it is usually because they dont really know what the council was about or what was the reason for it or all of the outcome. Many who are unitarian dont like it because of the trinitarian creed which was produced. Many others have false impressions of what it was about and what it did. It did not have any affect on Bible it was called to discuss a false teaching that was spreading in the church. It did not start the Roman Catholic church either. There were many items discussed but main one was a heresy being taught by one bishop.
Jeff Spicoli that answer is perfect
I've been a Christian probably longer than you've been alive and over two continents. I've never seen any Christian express themselves as you claim.
Perhaps the better question might be, why the hostility toward Christians?
Oh, lets answer this one like an atheist. I'm not wearing panties.
Seriously, I just read an article on it, what was meant to upset me?
I don't know what's up with the YA violation. The Nicean Creed is the summary of Christian beliefs.
