Help finding a positive word for overpowering? also some story writing hints x?

I'm writing a short story and I wrote a sentance saying "The smell of steak was overpowering". I then realised 'overpowering' is a negative word lol. What I wanted it to mean was the smell was really good. What word can be used instead of 'overpowering' that's positive??



Also my story is about a twister, and people surviving, any suggestions what I could put at the end? instead of just saying they'd survived. like perhaps a twist or a moralHelp finding a positive word for overpowering? also some story writing hints x?
I'd suggest the word "intoxicating", but try getting a thesaurus, which is kind of like a dictionary.



Possible ending: As they sifted through the rubble rescuing bits of their belongings, they also began the task of sifting through their lives.
