Are TV evangelists the masters of twisting words and using logical fallacies?

I can see why so many people flock towards them. Lucky for me, I took a basic logic course I took in college and several philosophy classes. They are charismatic, persistent and the use the lure of eternal paradise to swindle money from people. Are TV evangelists the masters of twisting words and using logical fallacies?
Honestly, I have no idea how they manage to sway so many into giving them cash.

Most of them really aren't masters at twisting words - most of the ones I've seen have been horribly transparent, and obviously don't even know what they're talking about. As con men, they're really not very skilled at all.

Where they do tend to excel is in giving the impression that they are sure about what they are saying. Even when the stuff coming out of their mouth is obviously a big load of poop, they are committed to that poop.

Many people seem to be searching for that kind of absolute, rock-solid stability. Even if the basis of that certainty is incorrect, at least they're sure. It's that hunger that the televangelists prey on. It's the same thing Bush relied upon to give him two terms in office.
No dude, that's the Rugrats. Are TV evangelists the masters of twisting words and using logical fallacies?
Yup. You nailed it.
only the good ones =) =)Are TV evangelists the masters of twisting words and using logical fallacies?
Def. highly skilled con artists.
They are dangerous and cunning rhetoricians.
To logical people they're stand up comedians
yes they are and no one is better than pat robertson he is the spawn of satan i swear to god
Yeah, those college courses are really paying off big for ya.
You know who else was charismatic, persistent, and used the lure of eternal paradise (perfect society) for their own gain?
TV evangelists should all be locked up for FRAUD
I'd assume so, though I tend to avoid their channels. But the only way to "sell" religion is by using the most blatant logical fallacies.
Well, those are things that we don't have to concern ourselves with, because God judges every man according to his faith and deeds, so let God do what He does best...
I never formally studies logic or anything but I watched hours and hours of James Randi when I was in the last stages of doubting my faith.

TV evangelists are urine stains on the pants of society.
Actually, I find televangelists to be rather transparent.
they are just like the extreme muslims who convince others to do suicide bombings, only instead of being violent the extort poor people for their money.
I'm a Christian and I would have to concur with you on this one. Critical thinking is becoming a lost art in today's society. God gave people brains to use and to decipher fact from fiction is one of the many ways the brain can be employed. Most of the T.V. Evangelists usually to one extent or another, employ what they term as "Bible Prophecy" to lure people, who have a fascination with the future (most people do re: psychics, fortune tellers etc.). Usually they employ cultic practices of having the viewers focus in a misinterpretation of the Bible. Commonly used is the ploy to have viewers feel special, that he or she is a unique "above the rest" person, that he or she is only going to be "saved" because he or she CONFORMS to a certain way of thinking based upon their presentation of the "truth". The $ then follows when the persons take the bait. Beware when these Cults try and sell you on buzz words and appealing speech like "We are the only true church" or "You have to do things the way I think you should". In general, CONFORMITY is the rule not TRANSformity. They make you feel "I am a mistake" - not "I make mistakes". Employing shame and guilt are common hall marks. Control is the objective..
yup.
..........They also make us Christians look like idiots
They are the masters of words geared toward desperate and self denigrating people.. It doesn't really matter what words they are twisting, or what logical fallacies that they choose to employ; it is the promise of hope to the hopeless that rakes in the bucks.

They are predators.

I consider soliciting money ( in exchange for hope) to be absolutely unforgivable.
